In the Salem City Area…

During these times of economic turmoil and tighter family budgets, there are many free opportunities for TAG enrichment activities. Sprague TAG students and their parents have a chance to go FREE or at minimal cost to many local events and venues. We encourage all students to also take advantage of the opportunities available in Salem whether or not they are TAG students.

Willamette University has many TAG opportunities available on their website. You will be able to keep informed about many events that are free of charge, or nominal cost. Willamette University has been wonderful about welcoming our TAG students to their events. Hallie Ford Art Museum will offer free admission to Sprague students. Students or parents need to just make contact with their teacher and we will give your name to the museum for free admission. The bookmark for Willamette University Calendar is:

The Salem Public Library offers other free enrichment events. All schools have students who sit on the advisory council for the library. Please note, there was a wonderful article in the Statesman Journal recently about the TEEN scene’s new section in the Public Library. The Willamette Heritage Center also has many events that are free or charge. This is at the same place as the Mission Mill Museum. They also have a summer intern program which is a great way for teens to learn about history and build their resume. You can book mark their calendar at this address:

To find out come experience A Victorian Christmas as John Doan transforms Willamette University's Hudson Hall at 8PM into a time machine that will transport the audience back to a parlor of a century ago with thoughtful and sometimes zany performances that include audience sing-alongs and whistle alongs. This festive program in its 25th year is a live version of his Emmy-Nominated Public Broadcasting television special featuring dozens of authentic instruments that include harp guitar, classical banjo, ukelin, an early roller organ, an Edison phonograph and a multi-media presentation of rare archival photos of people caught in the act of making their own music.

Advanced tickets are available at the Music Department or by phone at $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for Seniors, children and students under 18. Tickets at the door are $18.00. Willamette University students, faculty, and staff may acquire free tickets up to one week prior to the event (tickets are limited).
